Halifax, NS –Trade Centre Limited (TCL) today launched a website to provide information and gather feedback about the proposed new convention centre. The site offers Nova Scotians the opportunity to share their views on the project.
“The proposed convention centre is of interest to many people in the community,” said Scott Ferguson, President and CEO of TCL. “We believe it is important to ensure information is easily accessible and to hear the community’s thoughts on the project.”
The site, www.conventioncentreinfo.com, provides background on the project, has a weekly discussion forum and invites feedback.
As new information and reports become available, they will be accessible on the site.
The information currently available on the site includes the preliminary convention centre reports and a recently completed JDA Architects report that reviewed the practicality of renovating the current World Trade and Convention Centre (WTCC) to meet the specifications in the request for proposals for a new convention centre.
In addition to the website, TCL will host two public open houses at the World Trade and Convention Centre on Wednesday, June 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and on Thursday, June 24 from 12:00-2:00 p.m.
“As the Province continues to lead the procurement process for the proposed development, it is important that members of the public have a place to ask questions, share views and get updates,” added Ferguson.
A request for proposals for a new convention centre was issued in October 2009 and a submission is due in July 2010. A decision on whether the project will proceed will follow a detailed evaluation of the RFP submission which will outline a design and facility management plan, financing and price.
Trade Centre Limited (TCL) is a provincial crown corporation that operates five business units: World Trade & Convention Centre, Exhibition Park, Ticket Atlantic, Halifax Metro Centre and World Trade Centre Atlantic Canada. Its mandate is to create economic and community benefits by bringing people together in Halifax and Nova Scotia.
