Lawyer Gordon Gillis

Gordon has been a Deputy Minister in the Government of Nova Scotia for 18 of his 25 years of Public Service. He has held numerous senior positions including Deputy Minister of Justice; Deputy Attorney General; Deputy Solicitor General; Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs; Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs; Deputy Minister of Labour; Deputy Minister of Community Services; and on two occasions he has been Deputy Minister to two Premiers and as such the Senior Executive officer for the Government of Nova Scotia.

He is an experienced professional and continues to be a lawyer  and member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society with preferred areas of practice in the fields of mediation; arbitration; labour relations and governance in the Public Sector.

Gordon has been Legal Counsel to several Select Committees of the House of Assembly and has been a member of The Commission of Inquiry into Remuneration of Elected Members of the House of Assembly that reported in September of 2006.

He has frequently been a presenter on governance issues to groups of Senior Executives in Leadership Development Programs and also at the University level. He has completed a Certificate Program in Mediation and courses with the Canadian Center for Management studies as well as other Executive Development Programs.

Gordon is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Trade Centre Limited; he is also on the Board of Management for the Canada Revenue Agency, the Provincial Executive of several Community Agencies and has also been an active volunteer.
