Besides being involved in the above mentioned businesses, George served as a Member of The Nova Scotia Legislature for 21 years.In Government was responsible for various portfolios, Minister of Environment, Transportation, Communications & Government Services, and Health and Gaming Corporation. While in Opposition George held positions such as Caucus Chair, House Leader, and official opposition critic for Health & Gaming Corporation.

George has also been involved on a number of Community organizations. Presently, he is:

• Chair at Grandview Manor Seniors Foundation
• Chair of Apple Dome Committee
• Member of the Board of Governors of NSCC
• Director of the Armour Group Ltd.
• Vice-chair and member of Western Kings Memorial Health Society
