Frederick R. MacGillivray is President & CEO of Trade Centre Limited, Crown Corporation responsible for the management of the World Trade & Convention Centre, World Trade Centre Atlantic Canada, Halifax Metro Centre, Events Halifax, and Exhibition Park. He began his career in the grocery industry with IGA and rose to senior management and executive positions with Dominion Stores Ltd., Lumsden Brothers Ltd., and Bolands/IGA prior to joining Trade Centre Ltd. as President & CEO in 1994.
Fred holds two Honorary Degrees and is well-known for his dedication to the community through his leadership and volunteer activities. He has been awarded the Canadian Progress Award, Atlantic Canada Plus Distinguished Service Award, Governor General’s Medal Commemorating Canada’s 125th Anniversary, Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship Award, Sport Nova Scotia’s Chairman Award, Queen’s Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal, 2003 Crystal NS Tourism Award of Excellence, Canadian Association of Professional Speakers Award, and was selected as one of Atlantic Canada Top 50 CEO’s in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
Fred is Chair of Events Halifax and the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame. He serves on the Board of Directors of Canadian Hockey Foundation, Destination Halifax, Greater Halifax Partnership, and Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada. He served as Chair for the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championship, 2004 World Women’s Hockey Championship, 2004 FIBA Under 21 Tournament of the Americans, and the 2005 CFL Exhibition Game. He is Chair of the 2008 Men’s World Championship coming to Halifax and Quebec City.
