Councillor, Halifax Regional MunicipalityDawn Sloane

Dawn Sloane was elected to Halifax Regional Municipal Council in November 2000 and re-elected in 2004 and 2008 representing District 12, Halifax Downtown.

A native Haligonian, Councillor Sloane became involved in community issues in 1995 when she and her neighbours started a Neighbourhood Watch Program to combat the increasing crime rate in her downtown neighbourhood.

She has been very active in initiating safety education throughout District 12.

Councillor Sloane is also an active member of the Council of Neighbourhood Associations and has worked on issues such as the installment of a Community Council.

Councillor Sloane attended St. Patrick's High School, and the Nova Scotia Community College for Architectural Drafting. More recently she attended St. Mary's University studying Information Technology Solutions. She recently received her certificate in Municipal Governing from Henson College. She began taking courses in the National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration through the University of Alberta last year, and will be continuing these studies this winter.

Along with members of several community associations, Councillor Sloane has been actively supporting community skating rinks,local festivals, local artists. With the aid of Music Nova Scotia and the Downtown Halifax Business Commission, started Tunes at Noon in the Grand Parade during the Summer months.
